Hallo liebe Staatenlose,ich habe eine wichtige Frage, die viele Männer mit ukrainischer Staatsangehörigkeit betrifft, welche sich innerhalb der EU in verschiedenen Ländern aufhalten, hier insbesondere der Fall in Deutschland.Die ukrainischen Konsulate haben in Deutschland nämlich aufgehört (Quelle), neue Pässe auszustellen (um abgelaufene zu ersetzen) und fordern stattdessen, diese selbst in der Ukraine abzuholen, was direkt beim Grenzübertritt zur Folge hat, dass man in den Krieg eingezogen wird.Aus diesen Grund suche ich nun einen beliebigen Staat auf der Welt, welcher ohne hohe Anforderungen, im besten Fall remote-mäßig über ein Konsulat in Deutschland (ich wohne in einer Großstadt mit vielen Vertretungen), mir einen Pass ausstellt, damit ich weiterhin Mensch sein kann, der Grenzen übertreten und Bankkonten eröffnen darf.Haben Sie insbesondere für Angehörige der Ukraine von Erleichterungen einiger Staaten gehört, dessen Staatsangehörigkeit, idealerweise ohne Abtretung der vorherigen

Hello everyone!My name is Cecilia and I am a PhD researcher at the University of Sussex, UK. My research focuses on the identification of stateless asylum seekers in Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. It aims to shed light on the multiple challenges faced by stateless persons applying for international protection in Europe and to propose some avenues for improvement.For the purpose of my research, I am interviewing stateless persons/persons at risk of statelessness who have gone through the asylum procedure in the three countries (including persons who are still in the procedure, recognized refugees, persons who have been granted some other form of protection, persons whose asylum application was rejected and have not been granted any form of protection).If you are stateless/at risk of statelessness and have applied for asylum in Germany, I would love to hear from you! Statelessness in America

Hello,I was born in the Netherlands, I left when I was two years-old to America, I didn't realize I was stateless until I was in my early 20s. I'm 36 now. I've tried reaching out for help from the Dutch embassy received no help from them. I've tried to get help from immigration lawyers but they were clueless about statelessness and just wasted my time and alot of money for nothing. I've also reached out to UNHCR and they have told me they are working on ending statelessness but it's been years and it looks like there will never be any  progress. I was part of the first stateless grassroots organization in America called United Stateless, They have accomplished some great things and helped raise awareness on statelessness in America. But, I  haven't spoken to them in a long time. I think working together with other stateless organizations would be a great benefit for both. It's going to take alot of work to end statelessness.  For me, It's just been extremely difficult. There is no real

Help. I renounced my US citizenship and now I'm stateless. What happens next to me?

I walked into a US embassy and renounced my US citizenship as I thought at that time I’ll get another citizenship but I didn’t and now I’m stateless. I thought that my renunciation won’t be valid if I’m going to be stateless but that turned out not to be the case as the warning says that you’re exercising right to expatriate as you renounce.It’s only after I renounced that I  took the warning the US gave me about being stateless seriously. https://fam.state.gov/FAM/07FAM/07FAM1210.html#M1215I regret that decision. Financial inclusion project in Germany

Hi everyone, Statefree’s partner Apatride Network is still looking to interview more stateless people, refugees and other forcibly displaced people about their (our) experiences in accessing banking and other financial services. The interviews are anonymous and very simple. We will use the valuable information of these experiences in our cooperation with several international law firms, to draft a short report that we will in turn use to contact good and bad practices financial actors. An wen wenden?

Hallo! Ich besitze keine Staatsbürgerschaft. Weil ich meine Ethnie durchmischt ist, soll ich mich zwecks Identitätsklärung an unterschiedliche Botschaften (Geburtsort der Mutter, Staatsangehörigkeit Vater, Großeltern Geburtsland etc) wenden. Für mich ist es aufgrund meiner Volkszugehörigkeit und entsprechender Gruppenverfolgung des Landes A nicht möglich die Landesvertretung von Land A zu betreten. Für einen Identitätsnachweis brauche ich aber einen Bescheid dieser bestimmten Botschaft. Meine Rechtsberatung sieht es als zumutbar an, wenn ich mich mehrfach um eine Staatsangehörigkeit dieses Landes bemühe. Ich will aber aus humanitären Gründen nicht und habe keinerlei Verbindung zu dem Land. Muss ich eine andere Staatsangehörigkeit annehmen, wenn ich nicht in den Ländern geboren wurde? Gibt es andere Wege die fehlende Staatsangehörigkeit nicht beweisen zu müssen? Ich bin verzweifelt.

Why don't former Yugoslavians have citizenship of the modern country they were born in?

I’ve read this article and it made me curious about something.currently some 126,000 people. Many of them are Palestinians, Kurds or former citizens of the Soviet Union or Yugoslavia — states that don't exist.Individuals who were born in one of the former Yugoslav republics but were residing in a different republic at the time of independence were given the option to choose the citizenship of the newly independent country they were residing in.This was often done through naturalization or simplified procedures to avoid creating stateless persons. They had the opportunity to apply for citizenship in one of the successor states based on their ethnic background, residence, or other factors.For those who were refugees or displaced due to the conflicts in the region, there may have been specific provisions to address their citizenship status. unclear nationality XXX in Germany

Hi so, I’m a student in Germany, came from Gaza, Palestine to Germany via a student visa and I’m still in my 3rd semester but I have a student job and pay “student taxes” and so on. Does the XXX on my residence permit mean whatever I do and however long I stay in Germany despite having a degree from Germany and working and paying taxes and so on I will never get “naturalised” into the country? I came here for the LGBT rights and to feel safe and doing my best to naturalise  but now I have to worry about other stuff for the rest of my life? :’)

Undocumented due to fleeing from abusive home

Hello, I recently met someone who had to flee from their abusive home in an Eastern European country…  and had to leave all documents behind bc they were taken from them by the abusive parent… Reapplying for a new passport at the embassy is too dangerous bc of fear of the parent finding them.   The person’s application for asylum in another European country was rejected. So they now live in Germany in constant fear of being deported. Meanwhile getting a job in order to get a residence permit as work migrant  is nearly impossible without documents.     Any advice how to safely get documented again / get a legal status in Germany?

Hi,  I am stateless from Kuwait. I applied for asylum in the Netherlands almost a year ago with my wife (she was pregnant) and we voluntarily returned to Kuwait before any decision was issued in the asylum case. Citizens' Office does not want to recognize my statelessness

hello guys, first of all I would like to thank you guys for publishing such a great site. I have been recognized as a stateless person for almost 2 years. Before that, I was registered as an Unresolved Citizen with the authorities. Now to my problem, I wanted to apply for a registration certificate (Meldebescheinigung) at the German citizens' office, since the registration certificate contains the citizenship, I asked the employee to change this from uncleared to stateless and then presented my travel document for stateless persons. Since the employee was not familiar with this, he asked a supervisor. She didn't want to change it, as other documents have to be presented to prove this. It didn't make any sense to me at all. When asked what documents I have to present, she got angry and expelled me from the building. Is it normal to be treated as if you were a second class person just because you are stateless? Ich bin Nicole Großmann und bin sowie mein Vater in Deutschland geboren. Mein Opa kam im zweiten Weltkrieg als Kriegsgefangener von Montenegro nach Deutschland und hat dann eine Deutsche Frau geheiratet und sein restliches Leben in Deutschland verbracht, genauso wie mein Vater und ich. Wir sind hier zur Schule gegangen, haben die Ausbildung abgeschlossen und immer gearbeitet. Leider wurden mein Vater und ich nie in Montenegro registriert, somit erhalten wir seit mehreren Jahren, seit Montenegro und Serbien sich getrennt haben keinen Ausweis mehr. Uns ist es nicht möglich, noch im Nachhinein dort registrieren zu lassen, da wir keine Verwandten haben, die helfen könnten und Geld für einen Anwalt haben wir auch nicht. Selbst reisen können wir ohne gültigen Ausweis ja nicht. Die Auslandsbehörde hier in Mülheim will nicht helfen wegen der Einbürgerung. Die beharren darauf, das wir uns in Montenegro registrieren lassen müssen, um an einen Ausweis von Montenegro zu kommen, damit wir uns einbü

Liebe Community,wir machen hier in Dresden seid 2015 das Format Montagscafe. Das ist ein Raum im Theater, der jeden Montag für Menschen aus Dresden (oder Umgebung) öffnet. Wir sind vor allem Anlaufstelle für Menschen, die neu in Dresden sind, was überwiegend geflüchtete Personen sind, weil wir auch ganz pragmatische Unterstützung anbieten, aber auch Wohnzimmer zum Leute kennenlernen. Fotos mit Eindrücken von diversen Veranstaltungen des Montagscafés (auch auswärts), findest du hier.Neben der praktischen Unterstützung und einer zu Hause Atmosphäre, gibt es immer ein kreativ-diskursives Programm mit Workshops oder Podiumsdiskussionen zu Themen, die unser Publikum betreffen. Hello Community,I have a question concerning a client of mine (I am working as a psychologist). This client is currently stateless, although he has no official confirmation of being stateless. He came to Germany about 30 years ago from Aserbaidzhan - with a passport from the Soviet Union, birthplace Aserbaidzhan. Since his last passport expired he doesn’t have a valid passport - German authorities don’t want to confirm the statelessness. They want him to get official confirmations from russian and armentian consulate to prove that he is neither russian nor armenian citizen. He has a official document from Aserbaidzahn confirming that he has no aserbaidzhanian citizenship. All he wants is the official title of statelessness so that he is able to apply for German citizienship. He lives in the current situation (no valid documents) for 4 years now - which means he can’t work nor leave the country. Two lawyers who were involved in the case couldn’t help.
