Hello everyone! My name is Cecilia and I am a PhD researcher at the University of Sussex, UK. My research focuses on the identification of stateless asylum seekers in Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. It aims to shed light on the multiple challenges faced by stateless persons applying for international protection in Europe and to propose some avenues for improvement. For the purpose of my research, I am interviewing stateless persons/persons at risk of statelessness who have gone through the asylum procedure in the three countries (including persons who are still in the procedure, recognized refugees, persons who have been granted some other form of protection, persons whose asylum application was rejected and have not been granted any form of protection). If you are stateless/at risk of statelessness and have applied for asylum in Germany, I would love to hear from you! Please get in touch with me at c.manzotti@sussex.ac.uk. I will provide you with additional information about my research
Hey everyone!I am Marejke. I am a student of journalism at the Akademie für Publizistik in Hamburg. I would like to draw more attention to the important issue of statelessness in Germany and would therefore like to write a short portrait of a stateless person. Hence the question of whether someone affected would be willing to talk to me about it? And would it be possible for me to accompany the person in everyday life (for example when visiting the doctor/office or similar)? Many thanks in advance!Best regards,Marejke

By Lea Böhringer[German version below 👇🏼]Statelessness – whenever I bring up my dissertation topic in conversations with my friends, colleagues or even professors, many of them ask me this exact same question: What exactly do you mean by this? I, myself, had no idea of the concept a while ago. This comes from a privileged perspective where I never had to worry about passport issues. I first came across someone with a lived experience of statelessness when I made an acquaintance with a refugee from Eritrea. We became friends and he told me about how he was stuck in limbo in Germany because he has no access to his papers due to fleeing his country and cannot prove his identity. He hadn’t left Germany or seen his family for 7 years. I kept thinking about his situation for months until I came across the term statelessness and I was struck by what I found. The UN counts 4-10 million stateless people worldwide – while so many cases stay unreported. The Statelessness Convention of 1954 defi
Hello,I was born in the Netherlands, I left when I was two years-old to America, I didn't realize I was stateless until I was in my early 20s. I'm 36 now. I've tried reaching out for help from the Dutch embassy received no help from them. I've tried to get help from immigration lawyers but they were clueless about statelessness and just wasted my time and alot of money for nothing. I've also reached out to UNHCR and they have told me they are working on ending statelessness but it's been years and it looks like there will never be any progress. I was part of the first stateless grassroots organization in America called United Stateless, They have accomplished some great things and helped raise awareness on statelessness in America. But, I haven't spoken to them in a long time. I think working together with other stateless organizations would be a great benefit for both. It's going to take alot of work to end statelessness. For me, It's just been extremely difficult. There is no real

Wir sind auf der Suche nach Interviews mit (ehemals) staatenlosen Menschen, die uns helfen, diese Forschung inklusiv zu gestalten. I walked into a US embassy and renounced my US citizenship as I thought at that time I’ll get another citizenship but I didn’t and now I’m stateless. I thought that my renunciation won’t be valid if I’m going to be stateless but that turned out not to be the case as the warning says that you’re exercising right to expatriate as you renounce. It’s only after I renounced that I took the warning the US gave me about being stateless seriously. https://fam.state.gov/FAM/07FAM/07FAM1210.html#M1215I regret that decision. I don’t know what was I thinking when I did that. I should have took the warning seriously. What happens next to me?
Hi everyone, Statefree’s partner Apatride Network is still looking to interview more stateless people, refugees and other forcibly displaced people about their (our) experiences in accessing banking and other financial services. The interviews are anonymous and very simple. We will use the valuable information of these experiences in our cooperation with several international law firms, to draft a short report that we will in turn use to contact good and bad practices financial actors. Success of this project means better financial inclusion for the most vulnerable populations. Please email me if you would like to contribute or if you know anyone who would, aleksejs@apatride.eu
My name is Taha Ezam. I studied chemical engineering in Iran, but because of the problems that existed for the Baha'is, I had to leave Iran with my mother without anything. As of 2015, my mother and I are religious refugees awaiting resettlement .During the long resettlement process, refugees face many challenges to live in Turkey, such as finding a good job, education, citizenship rights, etc.
