 Let me start with a quote, "Human rights should supersede sovereignty in matters fundamental to human existence"The international community has made significant strides in recognizing and protecting human rights. However, the gap between these enshrined principles and their practical implementation remains alarmingly wide. This document seeks to highlight the plight of a particularly vulnerable group: undocumented migrants and their children, whose fundamental rights are often disregarded.    The experience of countless individuals across the globe mirrors a distressing pattern. Many have sought better opportunities in foreign lands, only to find themselves trapped in a cycle of exploitation and uncertainty. The process of regularizing their status is often fraught with bureaucratic hurdles, exorbitant costs, and arbitrary decisions. Failure to navigate this complex system can result in severe consequences, including economic hardship, social ostracism, and separation from loved ones.

Please could you guide me to any international platform where my voice may be heard? Is the international court of justice a good choice? But then I do not have financial resources to file a case at the international court of justice. I am working at a NGO, non-profit for the persons with the mental health issues. I myself am a person with the lived experience of the mental health issues. I have non-affective psychosis.I am Nepalese but I have no  legal documentary proof thereof as I was separated from my biological family when I was about 5 years of age and I do not remember them at all. if I was in touch with them I could have had a connecting link to Nepal through my mother/father . My plea is though I do not have any proof of my connection to Nepal, I am a human being and I am alive I mean I exist -so somewhere somebody would be a duty bearer to register me and my presence!!!!I mean how can I stay stateless? and for how long???right now I am about 40 years of age and all these 40 y

Call for participants – Research on the identification of stateless asylum seekers in Germany

Hello everyone!My name is Cecilia and I am a PhD researcher at the University of Sussex, UK. My research focuses on the identification of stateless asylum seekers in Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. It aims to shed light on the multiple challenges faced by stateless persons applying for international protection in Europe and to propose some avenues for improvement.For the purpose of my research, I am interviewing stateless persons/persons at risk of statelessness who have gone through the asylum procedure in the three countries (including persons who are still in the procedure, recognized refugees, persons who have been granted some other form of protection, persons whose asylum application was rejected and have not been granted any form of protection).If you are stateless/at risk of statelessness and have applied for asylum in Germany, I would love to hear from you! Hallo liebe Staatenlose,ich habe eine wichtige Frage, die viele Männer mit ukrainischer Staatsangehörigkeit betrifft, welche sich innerhalb der EU in verschiedenen Ländern aufhalten, hier insbesondere der Fall in Deutschland.Die ukrainischen Konsulate haben in Deutschland nämlich aufgehört (Quelle), neue Pässe auszustellen (um abgelaufene zu ersetzen) und fordern stattdessen, diese selbst in der Ukraine abzuholen, was direkt beim Grenzübertritt zur Folge hat, dass man in den Krieg eingezogen wird.Aus diesen Grund suche ich nun einen beliebigen Staat auf der Welt, welcher ohne hohe Anforderungen, im besten Fall remote-mäßig über ein Konsulat in Deutschland (ich wohne in einer Großstadt mit vielen Vertretungen), mir einen Pass ausstellt, damit ich weiterhin Mensch sein kann, der Grenzen übertreten und Bankkonten eröffnen darf.Haben Sie insbesondere für Angehörige der Ukraine von Erleichterungen einiger Staaten gehört, dessen Staatsangehörigkeit, idealerweise ohne Abtretung der vorherigen

Statelessness in America

Hello,I was born in the Netherlands, I left when I was two years-old to America, I didn't realize I was stateless until I was in my early 20s. I'm 36 now. I've tried reaching out for help from the Dutch embassy received no help from them. I've tried to get help from immigration lawyers but they were clueless about statelessness and just wasted my time and alot of money for nothing. I've also reached out to UNHCR and they have told me they are working on ending statelessness but it's been years and it looks like there will never be any  progress. I was part of the first stateless grassroots organization in America called United Stateless, They have accomplished some great things and helped raise awareness on statelessness in America. But, I  haven't spoken to them in a long time. I think working together with other stateless organizations would be a great benefit for both. It's going to take alot of work to end statelessness.  For me, It's just been extremely difficult. There is no real

Help. I renounced my US citizenship and now I'm stateless. What happens next to me?

I walked into a US embassy and renounced my US citizenship as I thought at that time I’ll get another citizenship but I didn’t and now I’m stateless. I thought that my renunciation won’t be valid if I’m going to be stateless but that turned out not to be the case as the warning says that you’re exercising right to expatriate as you renounce.It’s only after I renounced that I  took the warning the US gave me about being stateless seriously. https://fam.state.gov/FAM/07FAM/07FAM1210.html#M1215I regret that decision. I don’t know what was I thinking when I did that. I should have took the warning seriously. What happens next to me?

Financial inclusion project in Germany

Hi everyone, Statefree’s partner Apatride Network is still looking to interview more stateless people, refugees and other forcibly displaced people about their (our) experiences in accessing banking and other financial services. The interviews are anonymous and very simple. We will use the valuable information of these experiences in our cooperation with several international law firms, to draft a short report that we will in turn use to contact good and bad practices financial actors. An wen wenden?

Hallo! Ich besitze keine Staatsbürgerschaft. Weil ich meine Ethnie durchmischt ist, soll ich mich zwecks Identitätsklärung an unterschiedliche Botschaften (Geburtsort der Mutter, Staatsangehörigkeit Vater, Großeltern Geburtsland etc) wenden. Für mich ist es aufgrund meiner Volkszugehörigkeit und entsprechender Gruppenverfolgung des Landes A nicht möglich die Landesvertretung von Land A zu betreten. Für einen Identitätsnachweis brauche ich aber einen Bescheid dieser bestimmten Botschaft. Meine Rechtsberatung sieht es als zumutbar an, wenn ich mich mehrfach um eine Staatsangehörigkeit dieses Landes bemühe. Ich will aber aus humanitären Gründen nicht und habe keinerlei Verbindung zu dem Land. Muss ich eine andere Staatsangehörigkeit annehmen, wenn ich nicht in den Ländern geboren wurde? Gibt es andere Wege die fehlende Staatsangehörigkeit nicht beweisen zu müssen? Ich bin verzweifelt.

Many of them are Palestinians, Kurds or former citizens of the Soviet Union or Yugoslavia — states that don't exist.Individuals who were born in one of the former Yugoslav republics but were residing in a different republic at the time of independence were given the option to choose the citizenship of the newly independent country they were residing in.This was often done through naturalization or simplified procedures to avoid creating stateless persons. They had the opportunity to apply for citizenship in one of the successor states based on their ethnic background, residence, or other factors.For those who were refugees or displaced due to the conflicts in the region, there may have been specific provisions to address their citizenship status.
