2024 World Conference on Statelessness

 The next World Conference on Statelessness will be held from 26-29 February 2024 at TAYLOR'S UNIVERSITY in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Organised by the Institute on Statelessness and Inclusion (ISI), Nationality for All (NFA) and Development of Human Resources for Rural Areas (DHRRA) Malaysia, the conference will bring together 300+ participants with lived and learned experience of statelessness from across the globe to exchange knowledge, perspectives, ideas and skills.The programme will focus on the three themes of SOLIDARITY, KNOWLEDGE and CHANGE, and will be consultatively developed to respond to the interests and needs of the field. Hello, I am Claire!

Hi everyone! My name is Claire and I am a community ally. I am also a student finishing my Master's in Migration Studies at the University of San Francisco.My thesis work is focussed on understanding how to spur political participation in solidarity with the statefree community, as a step in the fight for citizenship for all. I am currently researching ways to harness the power of first-person storytelling as an educational tool, with the goal of pushing for the recognition of statefree people as the experts on their experiences as opposed to academic researchers. I also volunteer with the Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI), as a research assistant on asylum cases. I'm excited to listen, learn and fight with you all✊🏾

Design Event - Short interviews on statelessness

Good morning everyone! ☀️ check out www.ddw.nl​​​​In October I will be participating in the DDW, an important design event. As a social designer I will be participating by conducting several interviews on critical social issues such as statelessness. The Global Statelessness Movement - Who Are We?

The Global Statelessness Movement is a global community of stateless persons, activists, and allied organisations dedicated to the eradication of statelessness, equal nationality rights, and the human rights of stateless persons. We envision a world in which universal human rights - including the right to a nationality - are respected and upheld for all human beings. We are determined to elevate and amplify the voices of stateless persons at the international, regional, and national levels to influence policy makers, educate the community at large, and inspire global change.We have formed a small group of 23 people comprised of stateless activists and NGOs, to drive forward the movement and to prepare for the formal launch later this year. We look forward to welcoming stateless persons and allied organisations around the world to join our movement.The Movements Manifesto further outlines who we are, our vision, and how we will work to achieve our vision. Statelessness determination procedure - Master thesis in Switzerland

Hello dear community, I am writing my thesis on the current situation in Switzerland on the statelessness determination procedure (SDP) or the lack thereof. I am researching what the most important legal measures are to ensure a fair procedure. Right now there are no specific laws in place regarding the SDP. The procedure currently relies on general administrative procedural law. This can lead to challenging situations in the procedure. I am focussing on the fact that, the procedure in Switzerland is primarily in written form, the standard of evidence is very high and to access free legal aid and translation assistance high requirements have to be met. If you are interested in the issue or maybe even have personal experience or knowledge I would be happy to chat and share more of my work! My name is Omar. I am Palestinian and now live in and study in Belgium.I grew up in southwest Palestine in what is known as the Gaza Strip. My family ended upthere because they were forced to escape Yazur, Jaffa, in 1948. Today, the Israeli town ofAzor stands on the former site of Yazur which was depopulated and mostly destroyed by thetime my grandparents fled from there. Over time, the word “Palestine” was removed frommaps and dictionaries – locally and globally – and Palestinians were shot if they attemptedto cross back over this artificial border. Think the Berlin Wall before 1991.I eventually escaped the stress and violence of Palestine and the Gaza Strip, but it was notthe end of my misery. Between, 20XX and 20XX, I lived the life of a refugee in two countries.Both labeled me as ”stateless“, trapping me in an endless loop of hope and rejection. Hi I'm Fredo

Hi everyone. I’m a YouTuber and I’m very interested in making a video (or videos) about statelessness for my channel. I’ve never been stateless myself, but I have immigrated (from the US to the UK). That was a relatively straightforward process, but I do understand the stress of having your life determined by documents and government officials. I first became interested in statelessness as an issue when I made a video about Western Sahara, and learned there are many stateless Sahrawis in Europe especially. But I’ve been learning more about the issue and I realise that there are many different ways to be stateless! I’m keen to learn more and hope I can help bring more awareness to the issue.PS my pronouns are he/him.
