Enjoy the read! _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Christiana Bukalo is fighting for rights Everyone has the right to nationality - that's what the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 15, says. Christiana Bukalo, however, does not have one and is fighting to ensure that stateless people like her are given the same good life as other people. In an interview you once said that statelessness is a reflection of the world. In what way?Statelessness exists worldwide and is not visible. It can happen to any person. The spectrum of those affected is huge. But statelessness also reflects the difficulties we create for ourselves as human beings. The concept of nation states shows once again how much the focus is on exclusion and demarcation and how diffic

For some people the festive season is the time to reflect🎄. We used this time to reflect on what is needed to create a better future for stateless people and noted these things on our “Christmas wish list”. While only certain parts of our world celebrate Christmas, we are convinced that all parts of society benefit from a world in which stateless people are able to live in joy and peace. Anything else you’d like to add? There is certainly so much more we could wish for. What are your most important wishes & hopes for stateless people? Add your thoughts in the comment section and share with friends in the stateless community to add their wishes ✍️
We finally made it: The Statefree Community is live! The first time I publicly shared the idea of this forum was at an online conference from the European Network on Statelessness in September 2020. A lot has happened since then: We formed a founding team of eight people We were joined by incredible allies who supported us with the technical development, promotion and funding of this forum We registered Statefree as an organization And now: we’re finally able to talk, share and discuss with all of YOU! Thank you for being here and for joining this Community. Getting to this day was a long journey, but we hope it’s only the beginning of a way longer story of collaboration and communication in the sphere of statelessness → Browse through the forum, engage in the conversation and get in touch with us, whenever you have questions!
Hopping on here to share the good news that the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) committed to providing greater protections for stateless persons within the US. In the DHS’ words, the government “will adopt a definition of statelessness for immigration purposes and build a process for making statelessness determinations” and “will work to identify and catalogue barriers to legally available immigration relief and benefits faced by stateless persons.” You can read the full DHS press release here. This is a huge step for the United States, as the country does not currently have any legal frameworks, definitions, or pathways to relief for stateless persons. Hopefully more tangible information will be released in the coming days on how DHS and the US Citizenship and Immigration Services will enact such protections. Please check out United Stateless’ social media posts and share the good news! USL Tweet: https://twitter.com/UnitedStateless/status/1471164565123743750USL In
